Condolence: I had Ms. Jones in 1981 for History. She was an amazing teacher who knew how to make a subject most kid find boring/irrelevant very interesting. She liked and respected by all of us who had her as a teacher and I never heard anything but great things about her my 4 years at Grossmont. She was one in a million......

Condolence: Miss Jones was my history teacher and later, when I worked at GHS as a GIS, I was doubly privileged to work with Gloria as a peer. Her energy, her dedication, her laugh will always be remembered! It was an honor to have been her student and her co-worker. She is greatly missed!

Condolence: Miss Jones “GL” was my favorite teacher during my four
years at Grossmont (Class of 1964). She was a caring and incredible human being, always available to talk to her students on any subject, be it history or everyday life. She will be missed by many.

Condolence: Gloria L. Jones (always the “L”) was the best schoolteacher I ever had. In the late ‘60s/early 70s, the world seemed insane—Vietnam. Watergate. Revolutions. Assassinations. Miss Jones, more than most, had a sublime talent for shaping our teen angst and budding activism into meaningful action and life-changing lessons. She dared us to out-think, out-work and out-maneuver our real and imagined adversaries. She was both brilliant and funny, a cunning subversive in a retro hairdo. She demanded we speak truth. In turn, she taught us to speak truth to power. She was a gifted teacher willing to share those gifts with her students. Every great teacher aspires, above all, to make a difference. Miss Jones, you made a difference.

Condolence: When I was a bright-eyed first year teacher at GHS in 1975, Gloria was a seasoned veteran, an icon in my eyes. She tore through the quad, a look of determination on her face. She exuded confidence and a sense of purpose, and I was reluctant to delay her with a question or in any way deter her from her next mission. Throughout my career she represented the master teacher and was a major influence on my development as an educator. Although I saw very little of her since her retirement, the news of her passing is very sad. I can see and hear her now as a vibrant memory.

Condolence: Gloria was a second Mom to our family, spending each and every Christmas together in the 60's and 70's. One of the strongest individuals I've known throughout my life. Gloria was always ready to listen and help you think things through. Kept me from making some mistakes growing up no doubt. She will always be remembered and greatly missed.

Condolence: Awwww.... Miss Jones. What an integral part of my high school experience. Teacher, cheer advisor, ASB advisor and most importantly, friend. She had an unwavering belief in her students and then did her part to contribute to their success. Miss Jones was always her own person. Strong in her beliefs and ways, but never pushing her own agenda. It was about the kids and whatever was best for them. Always putting them first. We need more like her... always. She will never be forgotten.

Condolence: Miss Jones was my Cheer Advisor in the mid 1970’s.
I immediately liked her because she reminded me of my Mom with her quick wit and strong personality. She trusted her students and expected us to do the right thing. She helped us become young adults with her steadfast guidance. She, like my Mom was born a little early to be completely “herself”, but she embraced her role as mentor with courage and grace, and I admired her strength. We were very lucky to have known her.
