Adelaida “Dely” Sanchez Mostajo passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023 at age 87. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she departed naturally at home in San Diego, CA after living with dementia for eleven years.
Dely was free-spirited and loyal. Born on December 15, 1935, she grew up in Caloocan, Philippines with her parents, Virginia Lacsamana and Emilio Sanchez, and was the second youngest out of eight children. As a young adult, she enjoyed flying in airplanes, roller skating with friends, and playing mahjong. She was also a talented seamstress and pursued her love of fashion at the Pioneer Institute of Arts & Fashion. On May 21, 1965 she married Vicente Mostajo and became a loving mother to three children whom she raised in the province of Zambales and Quezon City. Then in November of 1985, she emigrated with her family to the United States. Despite going through the difficulties of starting a new life and having no formal college education, she worked as a seamstress and helped buy her family their first home in the United States.
Dely was also graceful and heart-driven. As a great cook, she showed her love through sharing food with her family and friends. She was a passionate gardener and grew beautiful flowers all around her home. She also loved celebrating Christmas and New Years as it was a time for family traditions and get-togethers. Throughout her life, Dely was known to have a quiet resolve and self-reliance. Her highest values were with God and her family. She attended mass almost everyday and continued being a devoted mother and grandmother until the very end.
Dely will be deeply missed and survived by her sister, Nita Arcellana, her husband, Vicente Mostajo, and her three children: Michael and his wife Jeniffer, Vicky and her husband Steve, and Marvin and his wife Karen. Dely is also survived and greatly missed by her ten grandchildren: Justin and his wife Erika, Jourdanne, Azriel, Angelus, Abriel, Athaniel, Kyle, Kieran, Konnor, and Kellin; and her two great-grandchildren, Kaedan and Koa.
Dely was preceded in death by her grandson, Kier; her only brother, Bining; and her five sisters, Pilar Cordova, Julia Intengan, Dolores Bartolome, Virginia Bueno, and Luz Dizon.
