Alan Wubenhorst, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 20, 2024, at the age of 42. Born on December 28, 1981, in San Diego, California, Alan’s life was marked by his love of family and friends, passion for film and writing, and positivity and persistence through many challenges. He was often referred to as a “miracle” after his amazing recovery when medical professionals held little hope.
Early on, Alan was a very athletic and energetic child. He played flag football and enjoyed track and field, and scouting. He loved the ocean and that love continued throughout his life as he enjoyed surfing regularly. Alan persevered after he became disabled at age 11, continuing his athletic endeavors with hand cycling and adaptive surfing.
Alan was an avid comic book reader and loved all things Marvel and DC. This led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in Television, Film, and New Media at San Diego State University. He worked with multiple organizations to hone his skills and wrote many short film screenplays and comic books.
Alan is remembered as a kind and gentle man who freely loved without judgement. He was very funny and fun to be around, bringing joy to family gatherings and friendships.
Alan is survived by: his mother Karen Wubenhorst, his sisters Julia (Sean) Praefke and Gina (Wayne) Rowe, and his nephews and niece Damien, Devin, and Alyssa. He also has many cousins on the East Coast who are touched by loss. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
