Alice M. Fallon (nee Fox) passed away at her home on Friday, February 19, of natural causes. Alice was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Robert R. Fox and the late Helen Fox.
A graduate of Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, Alice worked for many years in Manhattan as an executive secretary at the Chicago Steel Corporation. She was known for her N.Y. fashion sense with her stylish outfits and accessories, including the latest hats and furs. You could often find her shopping at Macy’s or Gimbel’s during her lunch hour. A true Brooklynite, she enjoyed a good egg cream from the corner store
and cheering on the Dodgers at Ebbets Field.
Alice married the love of her life, Jim, at St. Ignatius Church in Brooklyn in 1954.
In 1958, Alice and Jim designed, built, and moved into their house in Whitestone, Queens. Alice was busy raising four delightful children, attending St. Mel’s Church and keeping up with all the activities of the family.
In 1974, Alice and Jim moved their family to San Diego for some California living.
Alice put her faith in the Lord and in Jim. Alice worked at St. Therese Parish as the convent cook, as a rental agent at Grossmont Gardens, as a San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau “Redcoat”, and as a Secure Horizons ambassador. She enjoyed jobs where she could help people and put a smile on their faces. At St. Therese Parish, Alice was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, a devoted attendee of the Adoration chapel, and an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul and Martha and Mary Societies. She enjoyed the Friday night fish fries, Lenten soup suppers, and was always ready for a social gathering. Most importantly, Alice and Jim energetically supported the Right To Life campaign in the parish and in the greater community.
For many years, Alice volunteered at the San Diego Center for the Blind. She assisted the cooking class teacher, prepping ingredients, listening to and sharing many stories with the students, and then performing KP duty.
Alice treasured her family above all. She was a loving wife, a great mom, and a remarkable grandma. Alice loved the Lord, and felt anytime was a good time to say the rosary. As her health declined, Alice was cared for at home by her daughter Barbara. Staying at home was her greatest wish; Barbara made that possible. Alice was most grateful. The family is forever grateful to MaryJane Nigro, to Therese Moisian, and to Ed and Barbara Arienti for their devoted friendship, love, and visits, especially during the last few years. Alice was predeceased by Jim, her loving husband of sixty years. She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Bob) LaRose, daughter Barbara Fallon, son Jim (Phebe) Fallon, and daughter Patricia (Jomar) Cruz. Alice will be missed by her grandchildren Jennifer and Carolyn LaRose, Maggie, Charlie, and Andrew Fallon, and Therese, Joshua, and Christopher Cruz.
To celebrate Alice’s life, there is a rosary on Friday, March 11, at 10:30 A.M., followed immediately by a mass of Christian burial, at St. Therese Church, 6016 Camino Rico, San Diego.
