Arthur Joseph Aguiñaga, 94, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully on Monday,
April 11th, 2022, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA.
A native San Diegan, Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Mariano Aguiñaga and Cruz Rodriguez, his brother Mariano Aguiñaga, sisters Concepcion Aguiñaga, Celia Amaro, Hermila Rivera and Lillia Aguiñaga.
Interment will be held Thursday, July 7th, 2022, at 10:30 am in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, 1700 Cabrillo Memorial Dr. San Diego, CA 92106.

At a very young age, he shined shoes and sold newspapers in downtown San Diego. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Memorial Jr. High School, and graduated from San Diego High School in 1945. During his last years of school, he worked for Glen Abby Memorial Park and was hired by the San Diego Coronado Ferry part-time during his final year of high school.
Aguiñaga then joined the US Army and served in Korea from 1945-1947 with the 63rd Infantry Regiment. Upon his return, he was rehired by the San Diego Coronado Ferry. When he retired after 22 years of service, he transitioned as an educator for the Sweetwater Union High School District at Montgomery High School and retired after 22 years of service.
In his retirement, he was not idle. Aguiñaga chose to help others in the community.
Volunteering as a tour guide/docent for Old Town, he shared the history of San Diego’s inception with school children and visitors. He also volunteered as a tutor at
Chet F. Harritt elementary school.
Aguiñaga loved music, especially his Latin Jazz, and he knew the names of all well-known musicians. Besides loving music, he was a self-taught musician, who loved playing the piano and guitar. He also enjoyed growing hot peppers in his backyard.
Additionally, he enjoyed YouTube immensely. He would spend hours listening to his favorite music and watching detective stories, especially Sherlock Holmes movies from years ago.
He is survived by his children, Laura, Arthur O, and Jośe Aguiñaga. with two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. And many friends.
