My sweet dad, Arthur Weldon, passed peacefully in our home in the early hours of July 15th at the age of 95. He was born in San Pedro, CA on March 25th, 1925 to Everett Weldon and Anna Cohen. He is in heaven now with his high school sweetheart and wife of 76 years, Evelyn, their little girl Susie and his beloved mother, Anna. He had a meaningful and happy life filled with love and quality time with family and friends.
Art was a brave and highly decorated WW2 Army veteran of the Third Infantry Division, being awarded among many other medals, The Purple Heart, Bronze Star and French Fouragere. He worked for 30 years for the Naval Air Rework Facility at North Island starting as a draftsman and ending his career as an engineering lab supervisor. But home was where his heart was. He was a long time member of St. Therese Parish and the Knights of Columbus in Del Cerro. During his retirement he volunteered at Mercy Hospital, RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Patrol ) and donated generously to the poor in third world countries for whom he had a special place in his heart. He and my mom also enjoyed many wonderful trips around the world together and with friends.
He leaves behind his daughter Francine Poirier (Mike), Grandsons Ted Poirier (Heather), Brian Poirier, Great grandsons Ben Poirier and James Poirier (Cori), Ben and James’ mom, Amy Crites, and many beloved Mero nieces and nephews and Kuslo cousins. His ashes will be interned with full military honors at Miramar National Cemetery along with Evelyn’s.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese Parish at a later date. There is a deep void in our hearts but we are comforted knowing he is with the God who was his foundation and strength and that our sweet “Tutus” are together now and watching over the family they lived for.
