Barbara Jean Almon

Barbara Jean Almon passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 7, 1938, she lived a life full of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and community.

She is survived by her brother, Gordon Arthur Hurley, and his wife, Janet Mildred Hurley; her children, Bethany Jean Jones, James Gordon Almon, and Janet Elizabeth Esparza; her grandchildren, Megan Leigh Traughber and her husband, Ricky Lee Traughber, Ryan James Ricord, Dominic Gabriel Esparza, Darius Jonathan Esparza, Selena Rose Esparza, and Silas Daniel Esparza; and her great-grandchildren, Korra Andromeda Traughber and Ragnar Lynn Traughber.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Ellsworth Hurley; her mother, Ida Mabel Pettingill; her brother, Ray Hurley; her husband, John Teal Almon Jr.; and her son, John Teal Almon III.

Throughout her life, Barbara held various roles, including secretary, homemaker, insurance representative, customer service representative, and caretaker. Her dedication to helping others was evident in everything she did, and she touched the lives of many with her gentle and selfless nature.

Barbara had many hobbies and special interests, including enjoying food and coffee with friends, getting her hair done, playing solitaire and board games, singing in the choir, solving crossword and word search puzzles, crocheting, and watching her favorite game shows, especially "The Price is Right," "Wheel of Fortune," and "Jeopardy." She was known for her generosity and always being there for others, earning her the affectionate title of “Everyone’s Mom/Grandma.”

Barbara had a deep spiritual commitment and was a lifelong member of the Advent Christian Church. She served her church community faithfully as a Coffee Hour Host, Secretary of WHFMS, and Deaconess. Her favorite Bible verse was 2nd Timothy 1:12, which brought her great comfort and strength throughout her life.

Her favorite hymns included "I Know Whom I Have Believed," "He Lives," and "In the Garden," which will be cherished by her family and friends as they remember her love for music and her faith.

Barbara will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind and caring nature, and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and honor her memory.
