Ben D Warren Jr was born on May 20th, 1932 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Ben and Edna Warren. He had two sisters, Lucille and Lillian. The family had previously lived in San Diego, California and moved back when he was 1 year old. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1950. He studied business administration in college and met his wife to be, Donna, at a fraternity party at San Diego State University. They were married on her 21st birthday, July 24th, 1955. He had two children, John and Linda. He was always involved with his children’s school and extracurricular as a volunteer, coach, driver, fund raiser, supporter/attendee, etc.
He worked many jobs growing up. He was a parking lot attendant for Ace Parking in downtown San Diego and worked at Hazard Brick as a salesman and yard attendant. He served two years in the U.S. Army, 1954-1955 at Fort Ord (basic) and Camp Irwin. He was a branch manager for Security Pacific National Bank, an accountant/controller for Art Leitch Realty Escrow/Mortgage department and retired from his final venture, Warren Management Services, his property management company that he ran for 30+ years.
He had many passions, the greatest of which were The Lion’s Club and The San Diego Center for the Blind. Ben helped to charter the Santee Lion’s Club and later transferred to the San Diego North Park Lion’s Club in 1963 where he received his 55 year pin this year. He and his wife enjoyed serving the community and fellowshipping with other Lions. He has held many positions in the North Park Club and the 4L6 District. He is also a past president for the board of directors for The San Diego Center for the Blind.
Ben enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends. He was married to Donna for over 60 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He had the “green thumb” and could take a stick, put it in the ground and it would grow. He loved all animals, most of all dogs, of which he had many. He would complain about every dog that came into his house and within days that dog was cuddled up on his lap asleep with him, go figure! He lived a life, giving of his time, talents and love unselfishly. He is loved and will be greatly missed by all that were touched by his life here on earth.
