Bernard Earl Hartman, 83, entered into his heavenly home and joined his beloved wife Marjoree Maree Howard-Hartman on December 25th, 2023.
"Bernie" was born in Pensacola, FL on August 2, 1940 to parents, Bernard and Cora Hartman. He had one sister, Janice Lee Dobbs who preceded him in death in 2010.
Bernie graduated from West Covina High School and joined the US Navy in 1959. He proudly served for 21 years. He mentored many who were graced by his compassionate command and he watched them grow into mature and confident human beings while taking on the endless task of serving and fighting for our country. Bernie served through Vietnam and worked his way up to receiving title of Senior Chief Boiler Technician and Master Chief Petty Officer. He was presented with an Honorable Discharge in 1981 and a Certificate of Retirement in 1989.
Upon retirement, he founded "San Diego Interiors" and worked for the next 15+ years creating home design for many in San Diego. He also spent time providing care for a number of Del Mar Race Horses and if you knew Bernie, you knew about his passion and love for motorcycles (particularly Harleys) and sports cars, (favorably Corvettes). Over the years, he had many of both!
Bernie was an extraordinarily special man. Those who had the opportunity to know him immediately grew fond of him. Family and relationships were the most important thing to Bernie and if you were fortunate enough to interact with him, you would undoubtedly feel the warmth and gentleness that he brought into the room and into your heart. He loved to tell stories, each of them bringing a significant memory of joy and laughter. Every one of those stories were treasures and they honestly were endless.
Bernie is survived by his step daughter Sharon Holbrook, step son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Melissa Howard, grandsons, Scott and Dylan, granddaughters, Michelle, Sarah, Melissa and Grace, and great-grandson Conner, along with many other beloved family and friends.
Heaven has truly gained an angel. He was a humble and gentle man here on earth and he will surely bring a special presence to wherever God now sees fit for him. Bernie will be missed deeply, but his legacy of selfless love is a priceless lesson that will live on forever. Rest in Peace Papa Bernie.
