Brian Arthur Berling

October 3, 1956 — April 29, 2024

In loving memory of Brian Arthur Berling - a cherished husband, devoted father, accomplished software engineer, and beloved member of the community. Brian journeyed through life with grace and intellect, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born on October 3, 1956, in his beloved San Diego, California, Brian's path in life was one illuminated by wisdom and kindness. A proud alumnus of Monte Vista High School's class of 1974, Brian went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from San Diego State University in 1987, laying the foundation for a successful career that spanned over three decades as a software engineer at prestigious companies including SAIC, SKF, Tapestry Solutions  (Boeing). His dedication and expertise shone brightly until his well-deserved retirement in 2023.

Beyond his professional achievements, Brian will be fondly remembered for his zest for life and unwavering devotion to his family. His eyes lit up with joy during the holiday seasons as he meticulously decorated their home and crafted memorable experiences for his loved ones. His knack for turning gift-giving into an artform was just one example of how he poured his heart into everything he did.

A man of many passions, Brian found solace in watching sports - particularly football and baseball - proudly supporting the San Diego Padres throughout his life. An avid reader with an insatiable curiosity, he immersed himself in history and science, all while building an eclectic music library that spoke to his diverse interests.

Brian's sharp wit, compassionate nature, and unassuming brilliance endeared him to all who crossed his path. His family - wife Susan, daughter Nicole, granddaughter Carter, son Michael, and daughter-in-law Adriana - will forever hold dear his love and guidance as they navigate life without his physical presence. Though now separated by the unyielding hands of fate, the memories they shared will continue to serve as a beacon of light in the darkness.

On April 29th, 2024, surrounded by those who adored him most, Brian peacefully passed away after bravely battling cancer. His legacy lives on through the love he shared and the lives he touched along the way.

As we come together to honor Brian's life and legacy in a series of services held at Featheringill Mortuary for viewing on May 9th at 4:00 PM PST; St Columba Catholic Church for Mass on May 10th at 11:00 AM PST; concluding with a Graveside Service at Miramar National Cemetery on May 13th at 11:15 AM PST - let us remember him not with sorrow but with gratitude for having been blessed by his presence among us.

In honoring Brian's memory today, let us carry forward the lessons learned from a life well-lived - one filled with compassion, humor, knowledge, and above all else - love.

Rest in peace, Brian. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forevermore.
