Born in Colon, Panama, Carl lived in the Canal Zone U.S. Army base until the age of 12 before
coming to the United States with his father, mother, and three sisters in 1952. He was
confirmed into the Catholic faith early in his childhood and maintained his devotion to the

discharged after completing assignments in Japan and the United States.
Carl earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from California State University, Los Angeles.
From there he began a successful teaching career that would take him from San Diego to Los

of the Spanish 2 nd language curriculum and was awarded Teacher of the Year during his 20-
year teaching career. Carl was additionally presented with the Certificate of Appreciation
