Obituary for Charles Bennett Ramsden

Charles Bennett Ramsden was born May 24, 1919 in Guanajuato, Mexico. Although he lived most of his life in the US, he often traveled to Mexico on business and to visit his cousins and friends there. He is survived by his two children, Charles G. Ramsden and Lucille T. Ramsden. Charles survived their dear mother’s, Rose M. Ramsden, passing in 1994. At the end of the 90’s, Charles remarried. Soila Gaxiola from Mexico and Charles shared their love of Mexico and remained a devoted couple for the two decades they were together. Soila became a US Citizen after their marriage and was a doting and caring wife.

Charles, a WW2 veteran, served in the Army for 4 years 8 months with the 45th Infantry Division. Charles regaled may with his war stories of fighting in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He was wounded in France, spent 3 months in Army hospitals and returned to his unit before the end of the war to take part in the occupation of Germany.

Charles continued his education after the war and devoted many years to agricultural chemicals and general pest control technology. In later years, due to health and allergy problems brought on by the harsh chemicals, he changed his occupation and spent many years renting tools and equipment to building contractors and homeowners in partnership with his son, Charles G. “Chuck” Ramsden. Their concerted business efforts resulted in four equipment and tool rental yards in the San Diego area.

Although his daughter, Lucille “Teddy” Ramsden chose to live away from the family, they stayed in close contact through the years. Teddy has devoted her life to Art Therapy, becoming a Registered Therapist and gaining recognition in her line of work. She and her father were very close.

Charles’ legacy cannot be summed up by these objective markers because to know Charlie is to love Charlie. His generous heart and bubbly spirit were always the highlight of any get together. His surviving family includes his children as well as those he was so generous to love in his extensive adopted family through his marriage with Soila Gaxiola. Her children, Araceli, Guillermo, and Lulu, and their extended families all knew and loved Charlie and always looked forward to his presence at the many family events. Monserrat , Eduardo, Dante and Sagi Ruiz, Guillermo and Alejandra Serrano, Ricardo and Victoria Elizondo, were happy to get a loving hug from their abuelo. His presence will be missed and his loving legacy will be cherished by all who were lucky enough to know him. May Charles Bennett Ramsden rest in peace.
