Chris was born in Redwood City, California to Carl and Lillian Ostertag. As soon as she could talk, Chris became friends with everyone she met—setting the tone for the rest of her life.
After completing her degree in Education from SDSU, Chris began a teaching career that spanned more than 40 years—32 in a wheelchair. She taught business and modeled the art of persevering through life's biggest challenges. It’s no surprise that many students consider Chris their favorite teacher, or she was awarded Teacher of the Year. Chris also coached cheer, led ASB, served as Key Club Advisor, mentored countless new teachers, and was instrumental in establishing the Technology Academy at Canyon Hills HS (formerly Serra HS).
Her passion for community service was evident through her involvement with St. David’s Episcopal Church, Kiwanis, and as former President of Next Step Service Dogs, to name a few.
Despite the obstacles, Chris lived life to the fullest, surrounded by an army of life-long friends. Her ability to maintain relentless optimism made her admired and deeply loved as a teacher, friend, sister, cousin, and aunt.
Chris passed away in her sleep on January 27. She was one of the great ones, leaving a legacy of generosity, resilience, and an invincible spirit that will continue to inspire alll who knew her.
