The amazing life of Clarence Alan Haines came to an end here on earth on November 10, 2018, after a valiant 2-1/2 year long battle with illness. He was born in Alliance, Ohio, on August 17, 1942. His family (parents, 4 siblings, and himself) moved to San Diego, CA in 1945, where he spent the majority of his life before moving to Alpine in 2013. Clarence graduated from Hoover High School in 1960. While at Hoover, he played major roles in student activities, clubs, and sports, most notably as the renowned quarterback on the Cardinals football team. Also known to many as "Al", Clarence attended SDSU, completing four years of college. During the Viet Nam War, he was drafted and chose to join the Marines in 1964, spending the next six years in active and reserve duty. Clarence was an employee of the transportation department of San Diego Unified School District for a total of 38 years, transporting special needs students and was also involved in transporting luggage for the Mt. Palomar Sixth Grade camp program. Clarence is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of 27 years. He is the wonderful father of 4 children: Jason Haines, Michele Williams, Andre Carrington, and Corey Haines, and grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of two. He is survived by three siblings: Marie Diaz, Richard Haines, and Billie Manley. His sister, Norma Gorman, predeceased him. There are not enough words to express how much he was loved, and how deeply he will be missed."
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Foothills Christian Church, where Clarence attended, in El Cajon, on December 8th, at 11 a.m.
