It is with great sadness that the family of Claude “Skip” Henderson Wallace III, announce his death at the age of 77 from a probable stroke or heart attack on May 15, 2022.
Skip was born on the 28th of March, 1945 in Beaumont, Texas to C. H. Wallace and Jewell Deane (Griffin) Wallace and spent most of his formative years in the Houston area. He attended Memorial High School and then went to Texas A&M University. Skip graduated from there with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1967.
After graduation, he went on to serve as an officer in the United States Navy. He earned the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and served as the Damage Control Officer on his next 3 ships starting with the USS Schenectady (LST-1185).
After his release from the service, he married Jessie DeHaven on October 30, 1972, a nurse in the Naval Nurse Corp whom he met at Great Lakes, Illinois in 1970 . They settled in San Diego in 1974. The birth of 2 sons completed their
family: Scott in 1976, and Kyle in 1980.
As an engineer for Convair in San Diego, Skip was instrumental in the robotic department designing programs to identify defects in production.
Skips’ family enjoyed many adventures together over the years including skiing, sailing, camping, fishing, and desert bike riding. A Mediterranean cruise to celebrate Jess and Skip’s 35 th wedding anniversary was the highlight of travel for them.
Skip is survived by his wife Jessie, sons Kyle and Scott (Amy), and two granddaughters, Ayla and Skylar.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 2:00pm at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church, 11240 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. San Diego, CA 92124.

As pre-planned, Skip’s remains will be buried at Miramar National Cemetery with full military honors privately for family only.
