Clifford Hamilton Simmons died on Sunday, October 22, aged 86. He was born to Harold and Gertrude Simmons in Camden, NJ.
The family moved to San Diego, CA in 1941 when his father was hired at the shipyards. They lived in Mission Beach where he attended Mission Beach Elementary School. He graduated from La Jolla High School in 1948. He remembered his childhood with much fondness.
Cliff had a beautiful tenor voice, and performed in many musicals for Starlight, as well as tenor soloist for the Methodist Church in Mission Valley. He loved opera, and sang in operas at Cal State.
He started working at an early age, primarily in Belmont Park during WWII. He was ten years old.
As an adult he worked as a carpenter, construction supervisor, building inspector for SDUSD, and with a good friend, owned a cabinet shop.
He was married three times, his third marriage to Maggie Bryant Simmons from 1966 until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie, son Stephen(Sherry), daughters Nicolle De Priest and Helena Simmons, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His son John Tyler predeceased him.
