Dan Darrell Walters, 88, passed away on June 4, 2022 in San Diego, California. He was born February 6, 1934, in Christiansburg, Virginia to Nellie and Jesse Walters. He proudly joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, and served on the USS Hornet Aircraft carrier and in the Korean War. During his time in the Navy, he met and fell in love with his wife, Helen Louise Simpson, and they were married in December 1954. After his service to his country,
they moved to San Diego, California.
In San Diego, Dan worked in the aerospace industry at General Dynamics Convair until his retirement. Dan was an avid sports fan. In his free time he enjoyed watching Nascar, The Chargers football games, and the Padres baseball games. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Walters is survived by his daughter, Roberta Jones (James); Grandchildren, Natalee Jones and Amanda Staley (Jennings); and 5 Great-Grandchildren, Jaylee, Kali, Sydney Jones, and Jennings and Everly Staley in San Diego, CA; Brother, Lonnie Walters (Joyce) in Boones Mill, VA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Walters; Sisters Kathleen Collins, Dorothy Harris, Mary Lee Hedus, Betty Woolwine and Barbara Walters; and Brothers, Don Walters and Dale Walters. Services will be held Friday July 01, 2022 at the Miramar National Cemetery.
