Daniel Thomas Bruce
Daniel was born December 14, 1932 in Cresson Pennsylvania to Russell and Dorothy Bruce. Daniel, who was one of nine children, attended elementary and high school in Shellsburg County Pennsylvania. Upon graduation in 1953, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he trained and served as a fighter jet aircraft mechanic. After his four years of service, Daniel settled in San Diego California along with his sister Delaine and her husband Frank (Buck) Hall. Daniel worked for Convair in the aerospace industry before taking a job as an automobile mechanic in Ocean Beach. It was at the Douglass Service Station at Sunset Cliffs and Voltaire where he would meet his wife of forty eight years - Judy Bruce (Bentz). Daniel (Bruce as he was known to everyone) went on to have three children – David, (Ruth) Jane, (Ronnie) Julie (Greg) along with five grandchildren Emily Kate, Ashton Thomas, Savannah Lynn, Kayla Marie and Matthew Alexander.
Bruce worked for close to forty years as an automobile mechanic in the Ocean Beach area. He was a trusted mechanic who had a huge following of customers. Bruce was a loyal employee to his only boss – Don Pierce who became a close family friend and the god parent to one of Bruce’s children, Jane.
Aside from work, Bruce loved camping, fishing, sports and being with his family. He coached his sons baseball team, taught his daughters how to play soccer, taught his children and grandchildren how to ride bicycles, fish, camp, check our cars – the list is long and endless. Bruce’s quick wit, jokes and uncanny personality would make anyone laugh and leave you feeling as if you knew him forever.
Bruce’s family and friends will miss him dearly, but we know that he is no longer suffering and is at peace in heaven. Until we see you again Bruce, we love you.
