Daniel Paul Posada
August 25, 1963 – August 19, 2014
Daniel Posada left us peacefully August 19, 2014 with his Savior Jesus Christ, from his home in Lemon Grove, California at the age of 50. He was born in San Diego, CA, and grew up in the San Carlos area. Danny is survived by his wife Tami, 40; his daughter Felicia, 34; and grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Aurora Posada, two brothers Raul and Benny, three sisters Cindi, Annette, Pamela, and 8 nieces, 7 nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his father Raul Posada Sr. and his sister Sylvia Copley. Danny always said he was lucky to be surrounded by a large loving family and many blessed friends. He took great comfort knowing his daughter was present to provide him the loving care he needed in his last days. Danny valued family gatherings and was committed to being the menudo cook at Christmas and Easter.
Danny was an avid hunter he spent all of his early years hunting with his father, uncles, brothers, nephews and friends. He enjoyed hunting deer, elk, bear, wild turkey, javelina, dove and sheep. In 2001 Danny took the first glimpse of his bride-to-be, Tami, who herself was a hunter, while hunting at Kitchen Creek in the Laguna Mountains. They hit it off right away and later married on May 15, 2004. They did a lot of traveling together whenever they could. Together they have taken bears in Canada and Montana, elk in Utah, wild turkeys and mule deer in San Diego and don’t forget the deer in Alaska. Danny and Tami enjoyed taking their boat out fishing whenever they had the chance. When they were not hunting and fishing they enjoyed spending time at their trailer on Vulcan Mountain in Julian with their dog Ringo.
Danny was a general contractor as the owner of Dan-Co Builders and later Dan-Co Systems, LLC. He worked in construction from the age of 13 and grew to become a skilled craftsman. He built beautiful track and large-scale custom homes all throughout San Diego County. His work was valued for its craftsmanship and in 1996 he was asked by a family, which had noticed his work, to travel to Japan to build a custom home for them. He stayed in Japan for the duration of the project and learned a lot about Japanese customs. While he was in Japan he continued to attend 12-Step Program meetings where he met his friend Shaun, and from that meeting lives were changed.
Committing himself to the 12-Step Program way of life saved and changed Danny’s life forever. The hand of God touched Danny through the program and he was blessed with a gift that enabled him to in turn help many others in the program. Danny was passionate about his participation in 12-Step Program. He was a great speaker and he loved his 12-Step Program family.
Danny had a big, out-going personality and an infectious laugh, he was a big prankster, a great friend, great son, brother, uncle, dad, and husband. Danny’s wife, daughter, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends meant so much to him and he will be greatly missed by all of them.
Tribute to Danny by long-time friend Bob
As a close friend of Dan’s for the past 25 years and as his sponsor in a 12 step program within our community for the past 15 years I write a few words about Dan’s life and experiences in and around our fellowship.
Dan was an active member of our 12 step program and influenced a lot of people over the years to help them turn their lives around. His outgoing and fun-loving nature was an attraction to many newcomers who came into the doors of our meetings. He loved to be a part of the group and helped put together many outings and get-togethers over the years whether it be going to the mountains, the deserts, or to the beaches. Many of us have several fond memories of trips with Dan that included things like house boating to California lakes, carpooling with groups to large conventions, traveling across town for anniversary celebrations, or just to go see a good speaker at one of our big meetings.
One time, years ago Dan’s travels took him as far as Japan for a work opportunity. Through a series of circumstances he ended up in some local meetings where he soon hooked up with a struggling newcomer who happened to speak English. Dan helped this guy to get his start in the Program while they were in Japan together. That guy, whose name is Shaun, gained a foundation back then with Dan’s help and was eventually able to turn his life around. He is now a continuing member of the fellowship, a good family man and a successful member of society.
When Dan went anywhere around town within our fellowship, you always could soon tell when he was in attendance. Whenever you walked into a large group and Dan was there, it wouldn’t be long before you would hear his unmistakable voice and boisterous laugh as he carried on with his friends. We all know that trying to keep your head up in the face of adversity is an admirable character trait, and also that a lot of laughter is often good medicine. Dan kept his positive outlook and great sense of humor going right up until the end. We are surely going to miss him.
Dan had a heart of gold, which was as big as anyone’s I have ever met. He would go out of his way to pick up a new guy or gal to take them to a meeting. He would literally give a person in need the shirt off his back, money out of his wallet to get them something to eat, or money for food or bus fare to get them where they needed to go. I remember one time Dan called me up to tell me how he had been dragging a homeless newcomer around town to meetings and he seemed to be getting it. At that time he lived in a Scripps Ranch condominium with his roommate Phil, and he didn’t want his newcomer to have to go back to the cold streets after another one of the weekday meetings. Dan and Phil didn’t have room for this guy to stay at their condo, so Danny put him up in a local hotel for a few nights. You know we don’t know if that homeless new guy ever stayed sober, but we do know that Danny did. Danny knew that you’ve got to give it away to keep it.
There are too many examples of real life stories of Dan helping others to even attempt to list. Many a man within our fellowship has worked for Dan-Co over the years. For any newer guy who could prove that he could do an honest day’s work, Dan would often give them a chance and let them earn an honest day’s pay. Some of the time Dan’s generosity worked out, and sometimes it didn’t, but he was always willing to lend his helping hand. Dan was a great contractor and good businessman, and always believed deeply that God helps those who are willing to help themselves.
One of the sayings that Dan often quoted to others when faced with a difficult life situation was “Either God is everything, or else He is nothing”. He’d then say, “So what do you want to believe?” When you consider that question, there is only one conclusion. We all know Dan deeply loved his family, friends and all the good things in life. Dan lived his life right up until the end understanding and knowing from the bottom of his heart that indeed God is everything, in the now and in the hereafter.
