David Lee Doane was born May 2, 1962 to Gorgonia and Richard Doane. David was born and raised in National City, California. He attended El Toyon Elementary school, Granger Junior High, and graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1980. Most of David’s professional career was executed at Nassco, a design and shipbuilding company where he was a Sr CAD Analyst/Programmer. In addition, David thrived as an Emcee and DJ for thousands of weddings & events throughout the course of his life. In March of 2018, he made the decision to retire early in order to relax and enjoy the remainder of his life with family and friends.
David Doane was not just a pillar to his community, he was a pillar to the multiple communities where his impact was seen, felt, and honored. As both president of Lemon Grove Little League, and board member for District 66, David’s 20 years of service to the Lemon Grove community was recognized and awarded with a Key-to-the-City. Part of his legacy lives forever at DAVID DOANE FIELD.
His ability to connect and communicate with people made him a vital asset in coordinating a variety of Sweetwater High School (SUHI) Reunion Events. He helped ignite the old flames and friendships to thousands of Sweetwater HS Alumni, even outside of his graduating class. His service, as well as his reputation, in the SUHI community, was honorably recognized at his birthday/retirement celebration in 2018, with yet another Key-to-the-City, this time to the place that raised him, National City.
David seemed to have friends in low places, high places, and everywhere in between. He utilized and nurtured these relationships as much as possible, and often delegated his event needs to the services of friends and family businesses, assuming they met the standards of a “Doane” event.
Although David left an uplifting impression on everyone he interacted with, a proud legacy for any human to leave, he beamed with pride most when it came to his family. His marriage to Gena, his best friend and soulmate, lasted for nearly 30 years. Together, they were the epitome of a “social butterfly,” always bringing their smiles, laughter, and outgoing personalities. Their love blossomed and created the next generation, a boy and a girl. David embraced and conquered the balance of being an amazing “Girl Dad,” while simultaneously raising a son the way any good man of God would, in his image and likeness. Long before his death, David was spiritually at peace knowing that his children, now adults, embodied his same values and had big plans ahead of them.
David Doane’s legacy lives on through his wife, children, his work, and the example he set. He will be greatly missed, and never forgotten.
