Donald John Fago

Donald John Fago, born in San Diego 70 years ago, passed away of brain cancer on May 18, 2018. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Bonnie, and his children Danelle (Ab Jenkins), Travis (Amy), and Dane. Also, Don will be remembered with fondness by his seven grandchildren, Crew, Tate, Haleigh, Avenleigh, Noah, Jett and Niyah, and by his brother-in-law, David, and his wife, Sandy. Forever remembered by his ex-wife and his children's mother, Debbyee Parcel and her husband, Gary Parcel.

Don attended St. Patrick's school in the North Park area of San Diego, and also attended High School at St. Augustine. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Physical Education/English Literature degree, and later obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University. Don worked in the San Diego Park and Recreation Department for 10 years, worked at Rohr Aircraft for about 2 years, and spent his latter career of over 20 years as a Teacher with the San Diego County Office of Education. He taught many subjects but loved to teach PE (Physical Education), and most of his career, he taught "at-risk" youth. He retired in May 2009 and enjoyed working out at the gym at least 3 times a week, and going to the beach. He also enjoyed taking trips and cruises, and visiting family in Chicago. He enjoyed watching football and other sports, including boxing and jujitsu.

Don was outgoing and made friends easily. He could always talk to anyone he met, and often ran into people he knew everywhere he went. He had a positive outlook, even in adversity and was willing to fight his illness, but also was accepting of any outcome, saying "It's in God's Hands". Don leaves a legacy of gratitude, love, strength, faith and hope for all who were blessed to know and love him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8902 Highwood Drive, San Diego, CA 92119.
