Doris Ann Hanna, 83, peacefully entered into her heavenly home on Thursday October 27, 2022 from
her hometown of San Diego, California. Doris was born in Fullerton, California on June 16, 1939 to
Wayne and Hazel Roberts. Wayne and Hazel had moved to Fullerton from their farm in the small
community of Buckeye in northwestern Arkansas, near Fayetteville. Doris was the older of two children
born to Wayne and Hazel. When Doris was approximately 3 years old the family returned to the farm in
Arkansas. In 1952 the family moved to Wichita, Kansas where Doris graduated from high school in 1957
from West High School in Wichita. She began working full-time as a sales clerk for a small department
store that summer and then entered Friends University in the fall of 1957. At the age of 19 Doris met
the love of her life and married John Hanna on November 1, 1958. John and Doris moved to Topeka,
Kansas the day they were married where John had completed basic training and was stationed at Forbes
Air Force Base. By 1964 John and Doris began raising two boys (Mike and Dan). John’s career took the
family to Fort Worth, Texas and finally San Diego, California. In San Diego Doris started a career as an
“Avon Lady” selling Avon products door-to-door around the community for several years. After a career
change, she took a secretarial position at the County of San Diego, Department of Social Services, where
she retired from after 12 years of service. As God’s faithful servant, Doris served in a variety of roles at
each church her and John were members of. She was a Sunday School teacher and a mentor to young
women throughout her life. Doris was a proud member of the San Diego chapter of “Red Hats” ladies
club where she cultivated many friendships during her time with them.
Doris leaves loving memories cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons Michael
and Daniel, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
