Dorothy E. Potter

Dorothy "Dorena" Elena Potter aka "Mamaw" was born on June 17th, 1948 in West Orange, California to David Samuel Carter and Lorene Gem Humrich.

On November 11th, 2016, after a courageous 13+ year battle with breast cancer she passed away peacefully at her home in Santee surrounded by friends and family.

Dorena loved many things and people throughout her life. She had a big, kind and generous heart.

She truly loved her job. She took great pride in always giving 110% and would go above and beyond to provide support for her co-workers, all whom she considered friends and family.

Outside of work she enjoyed reading, playing Yahtzee, the occasional trip to Barona and watching NASCAR races (Jimmy Johnson’s #1 Fan), Golf Tournaments as well as many other local sports teams.

BUT…Dorena’s greatest passion, delight and primary focus in life was raising her grandson, Brandon Tyler Shellum. HE was her reason for everything.

While she faced adversity in health and in life, she always found the positive, remained STRONG, and persevered.

Someone said adversity builds character, but someone else said adversity reveals character. Dorena’s true beautiful character shined through for all of us. To know her was to love her and be loved by her. Dorena will be greatly missed by many but forgotten by none.
