Dovie Jean Harvey was born on March 31, 1940 in Montgomery County, Mississippi. She was the fifth child born to John King Harvey and Mattie Shelton. Dovie graduated from Mananassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee where she played the French horn as a member of the school band. After graduating from high school, Dovie married and left Memphis moving to San Diego, California. She received a Bachelors Degree in Social Services from Point Loma Nazarene College and served many years as a soldier with the Salvation Army.
Dovie lived an active life. In her younger years, playing tennis, which she was very good at. She also enjoyed water aerobics which she kept up until she was no longer able to. Dovie loved music and working in her yard, dancing, traveling, and socializing with people. Dovie worked as a seamstress and after graduation from college, an Early Childhood Educator which brought her much joy and kept her young in spirit. She was an active member of 61st Street Church of Christ.
On Monday, September 13, 2021, Dovie Jean Harvey departed this earthly manifest. She was preceded by three sisters, Antoinette Harvey, Jacqueline G. Shelton and Andrea D. King and brother Shelton Harvey. Dovie is survived by sisters: Ruthie M. Harvey, Archa R. Glass, Maxine Foster, and Karen S. Randle: many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She had no children.
