Elda "Eldie" Kuskie

On May 1, 2023, Eldie passed away peacefully at home, one month away from age 95, after a three-year period of ongoing health conditions. The family is appreciative of the compassionate care she received from Sharp Hospice staff throughout this time.

Eldie was born in Woodworth, North Dakota, and moved to South Saint Paul, Minnesota at age 9. Her first language was German and she recalled how difficult her first year in an English speaking school was. When her older sister Adeline “Panda”, moved to San Diego, California, to get married, Eldie followed. For the rest of her life Eldie remained a loving presence in her sister’s family which included five children. Eldie worked as a Civil Service Secretary at the San Diego Naval Training Center for over thirty years and was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran La Mesa, congregation. She had a lifetime habit of walking an hour every day and traveled often to Hawaii with her longtime companion Robert. Eldie loved trying out new San Diego restaurants and frequenting old favorites like the Cotton Patch (longtime closed), and Pernicano's Pizza. She was an avid Chargers fan and refused to speak of them after they deserted San Diego! 

Eldie had a genuine and kind spirit that endeared her to many people. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. Eldie is survived by two nieces, Susan Finger and Lynn Brule, and a nephew, Dennis Brule.
