Emily Viola Williams was born on December 10, 1925 to Fred & Emily Litwitz in Chicago, IL. She was one of 8-siblings — 2 sisters & 5 brothers. She was raised in a Christ centered home and spent her first 31 years on the north-side of Chicago. She attended St. James Lutheran School thru the 8th grade. She went to work in a candy store and later a greeting card manufacturer to contribute to supporting her parents keeping their brick stone apartment. She loved music and loved to sing. She joined her brothers in being a part of a local band which at one point in time lead them to perform at Soldier Field (Da Bears) in Chicago.
In the early 1950's, a girlfriend suggested she become a pen pal with a serviceman — in 1956 she married her pen pal, Benjamin Edward Williams Jr. in Chicago. Their honeymoon consisted of driving back to California to make San Diego, CA their home. They made their first home in Ocean Beach. Emily would walk to the beach each & everyday while Ben served in the United States Navy. They purchased their one and only home in 1957 in La Mesa. Ben & Emily had 2 children Darlene Ann & Ronald Allen.
Family life consisted of countless trips to Disneyland, Long Beach, Kingsburg & Chicago. Emily was fortunate enough to be a stay at home Mom and was involved with her children's interests. Emily was an amazing cook and loved to bake. Her baking specialty was her infamous Spritz Cookies. She would decorate each cookie with such meticulous details and share them with countless family members and friends.
Preceded in death was her loving husband of 55 years, her parents, brothers & sisters. Emily continued to live a full life after Ben died keeping her interests of reading, music, singing, playing her guitar and electric guitar. She loved every opportunity to go out to lunch with her dear friends & loved attending church and social events at church. She was a volunteer for countless years every Thursday at the La Mesa Thrift Store. Her claim to fame at the thrift store was pricing the shoes and purses.
Emily turned 95 on December 10th and was called to her eternal home on December 15th. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene & Dick Jackson (Alpine, CA), son Ron & Karen Williams (Menomonee Falls, WI), sister-in-law & brother-in-law Virginia & Jim Snow (Long Beach, CA), 3 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews & her sweet kitty Khloe.
We thank God for her 95 years of life and give thanks for her eternal life ~ John 3:16. In the midst of our grief and sadness, we are thankful for God's grace, mercy and unconditional love.
Mom, you are our sunshine ~ you are and always will be forever in our hearts. We love you!
