Floyd Eugene Corbin, fondly known as Gene, passed away on Sunday, November 12th, with his family by his side. He was 92 years old. He was born on September 17, 1931 in the small town of LeRoy, Kansas, where he spent his youth and met the love of his life, Shirley.
Gene was an extraordinarily intelligent man who attended the University of Kansas and took pride in his accomplishments with the Jayhawks. He continued to further his education and proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer and Officer on several surface ships, conventional and nuclear submarines, including the first under-ice expedition aboard the USS Nautilus. He went on to serve in the Vietnam War, and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the US Navy.
After his naval career, he went on to work as an educator guiding college students in the industrial arts at SDSU. Throughout their lives together, Gene and Shirley lived all over the US moving wherever the Navy gave Gene new orders to go. They eventually settled down and remained living in San Diego, California with their three daughters.
After officially retiring, Gene spent quality time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He spent his time getting to know each one of them and creating loving memories that will last forever. His passions in retirement included photography, woodworking, and traveling; all of which he was happy to pass on to the future generations of his family.
Gene was loved deeply by his family and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley Corbin. He is also survived by his three daughters Marcia (John) Simonson, Christine (Ed) Pezanoski, and Janet (Mike) Manen, eight grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a supportive, caring, and generous man who leaves behind a legacy of love.
