Gail Phelps Stoddard Hernandez (March 15, 1947 – August 13, 2019)
Gail Hernandez passed away from complications of multiple myeloma, surrounded by her children and grandchildren; she moves forward carrying the energy of all those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Hernandez; her four children and their spouses: Alicia Hernandez Sanchez (Joaquin), Rebecca Welsh (Ron), Teresa Sanchez (Jorge), and Nick Hernandez (Michelle); and by her four beloved grandchildren: Hannah Welsh, Josue Sanchez, Isaac Sanchez, and Marcos Sanchez.
Gail was the “den mom” for her kids, grand-kids, and their friends. She helped raise two of her grandchildren while living with one of her daughters for 10 years, carting boys to lacrosse practice and doing group sing-alongs. She also taught ESL (part time), took kids camping, and attended numerous school concerts, musicals, games, and swim meets. Among her many roles, Gail was an editor, beekeeper, marketing director, professional photographer, birthing coach, and a fierce patient advocate. She taught her children by example to be kind, generous, tolerant, independent, smart, and loving.
Gail enjoyed reading, sewing, and scrap-booking. Her favorite places to travel were Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. In honor of her last wishes, her ashes will be spread in Yosemite, and a memorial service will be held in her honor on October 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Wawona, Yosemite National Park, CA. Immediately following the outdoor celebration of Gail’s life, a reception will take place inside the cabin.
