GEORGE EDWIN CATLIN, III, 86
George Edwin Catlin III, 86, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the VA Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit in La Jolla. He died to the sound of Stan Getz, holding the hand of his two loving children as he passed over to the next realm. As a proud veteran of the Air Force who fought in the Korean War, the VA sent him off in style, offering an honorable military procession fit for a King.
George was a brilliant innovator and visionary who grew up on the streets of Compton in Los Angeles, CA. A great lover of jazz and an entrepreneur well ahead of his time. In 1977, as Vice President Greenpeace San Diego, George worked tirelessly to give a voice to the voiceless, expanding its membership from 6 to 3000. He had a masterful green thumb and enjoyed growing things, happily sharing them with friends and family. George also had a passion for making fireworks, turning his hobby into a true art form.
George was extremely loving and proud of his children, James Catlin of San Diego and Cristi Catlin of Los Angeles. He is also survived by daughter-in-law Kristina Catlin and three beautiful grandsons, Jake Tandy, Owen Catlin and Oliver Catlin. He leaves a lasting legacy and will live on in the hearts of those who loved him forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s name and sent to: The DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Charitable Service Trust, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250.
