George Washington Jenkins, born June 12, 1924 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Herald and Rebekah Jenkins. Graduate of McCaskey High School . George enlisted with the United States Navy in 1942 for the “duration of the war”, serving as quartermaster on an LCT in the Pacific. He met Ramona Davis at a dance club (the Palladium) in Los Angeles during a leave. After his Navy discharge, he married Ramona at year end 1945. George made a life in California. They had two children and in 1956 moved from Los Angeles to San Diego. He was an underwriter for various insurance companies.
George’s greatest joys were music, Boston terriers, camping, cruises, reading, family and friends. He loved to tell his stories and make people laugh.
After the early passing of his wife Ramona in 1993, George married Mary Marone in early 1997. He continued his love for dancing, music and travel in his life with Mary.
George is survived by wife Mary, siblings Herald Jr “Corky” (Phyllis), James (Sheila), Anna (Ray) and John (Nancy), son Geoffrey (Sharon), daughter Deborah (David), stepdaughters Kathy (Tom), Gina (Steve) and families. He was a loving “grandad” to his grandchildren Ryan, Scott, Rebekah and Heather, and great grandchildren Ava, Jake, Kylie and Weston.
George will remain a precious memory in the hearts of all who knew him.
