Gloria Vachon passed from this life on December 14, 2020 at the age of 85 due to complications from Alzheimers.
Gloria attended Catholic grade and high school and received her nursing diploma from St. Vincent Hospital Nursing School. She subsequently passed her state board exams and became a registered nurse.
She took nursing positions on the islands of Hawaii and Oahu and then returned to the states to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Francisco, from which she then applied for a Navy commission and became a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the reserve Navy Nurse Corps. She was stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. She later applied for active Navy and was promoted to a full Lieutenant.
She met her husband Robert in San Diego and they were happily married for 58 years. During that time she raised six children, after which she returned to nursing for several years at Grossmont Hospital and El Cajon Valley Hospital.
Gloria was a faithful, lifelong Catholic and served as Sacristan, Lector, and Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister at St. Kieran Church in El Cajon and at St. Thomas Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, over a span of years. She was also a Secular Order Carmelite.
She was predeceased by her parents, aunts, and uncles. Survivors include her husband, three sons and their spouses, three daughters and their spouses, sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Gloria was a fantastic wife and mother, second to none, and is now on the pathway to see her Creator.
