Harold Dexter “Bud” Hammett
January 3rd, 1921 - June 10th, 2018
Bud Hammett passed away on Sunday, June 10th. He was 97. Bud was born in Phoenix AZ to Dexter Edgar and Anna Ruth West Hammett.
Bud was born in Phoenix, AZ. In World War II, he became a Master Sergeant crew chief mechanic in the Army Air Force. He worked on B-17s in the 600th squadron, 398th bomb group. He was stationed in England and served more than three years. Bud met his lovely bride Alma Jane Groom at a USO dance. They wed on 7/7/43 and were married for almost 66 years until “Janie” passed away on 6/19/09.
Bud was an entrepreneur, owning many successful businesses throughout his life before retiring at age 58 to travel and spend time with his family.
Bud was a remarkable man. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He is survived by his two sons Ronald (wife Mary) and Richard (wife Mary Ann); 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Open casket viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m., with chapel service 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Featheringill Mortuary, 6322 El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego, CA.
Military graveside services will immediately follow around 11:30 to noon at Singing Hills Memorial Park, 2800 Dehesa Road in El Cajon, CA. There will be a family hosted luncheon reception held at the El Cajon Elks Lodge, 1400 E. Washington Avenue El Cajon CA 91920 after the Graveside services.
