Harold Lavern Fix
September 14, 1918 - August 30, 2014
Born near the end of World War I, Harold L. Fix, among many occupations, was a trapper, a coal miner, a boxer, and a soldier. He retired in 1981 after 30 years as an aerospace tool and die maker for General Dynamics Corporation in San Diego, California. He raised three children with his beloved wife, Frieda, and watched grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren growing to adulthood. More than 95 years of life gave him a unique perspective that he shared with his family and friends in his personal memoir, Sunshine & Shadow: Memories From A Long Life.
Harold was a resident of El Cajon, California, for 62 years, living most of that time in the home that he and his wife purchased in 1955. His gentle nature and loving smile will be missed by all who knew him. He always had a kind word and a warm welcome for everyone, making him a favorite grandpa, uncle, and neighbor.
Harold Fix is survived by his wife of 74 years, Frieda Atherton Fix; his daughter, Carrol Fix Goodwater; his son and daughter-in-law, William A. Fix and Pamela Caldwell Fix; his daughter-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Fix, wife of his deceased son James L. Fix; seven grandchildren: Sandra Goodwater, Cynthia Goodwater Bhatnagar, Douglas Fix, Steven Fix, Sharon Goodwater Conn, Suzette Goodwater Angel, and Lacey Fix Jackson; eighteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Hazel Atherton Brown, Ruth Atherton, Faye Brown, Marie Fix, and brother-in-law Ralph “Bud” Robinson.
Inurnment is at the Miramar National Cemetery Columbarium, San Diego, California. Contributions are welcome in his memory either online at his VFW Tribute Page or mail to: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Attn: The VFW Tribute Pages, 406 West 34th Street, Suite 718, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
