Harry Robert “Bob” McSpadden passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on March 9 th , 2022 at the age of 97. Bob was born July 23rd, 1924, in Chelsea Oklahoma, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. His parents were Thomas Booth and Iona Hontas Baines McSpadden. Bob was born child # six of eightsiblings, Opal, Harold Booth “Cap”, Louise, Lyle Jesse “Buck”, Katherine “Kay”, Harry Robert “Bob”, Billie and Jack. Bob was the last surviving sibling of his immediate family.
Thomas and Iona brought their family to San Diego California in 1936 and settled in La Mesa / Spring Valley region of East County.
Bob enlisted in the US Army in March of 1943. He was a combat veteran and served in WWII. Assigned to the 290 th infantry Regiment and the 27 th infantry Division. Bob earned the “American Campaign Medal, “European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal”, “World War II Victory Medal” and “Good Conduct Medal” with honor for his service to our country. After the war Bob returned home to La Mesa and began a carrier in the lumber industry, working for the “La Mesa Lumber Company” where he was known among friends as “Mac”. Bob along with his brother Lyle “Buck” McSpadden built several homes in the east county of San Diego.
Bob met his life partner and wife of 63 years, Beverly Durham, in downtown La Mesa. They were soon wed on August 1 st , 1953, at Vista La Mesa Christian Church. Bob and Beverly had two children together. Michael and Robert also known as Mike and Bobby. Mike passed away in 2009. Bob’s beloved Beverly passed and joined her son in heaven in 2016. And now, Bobs passing reunites them once again.
Bob is survived by his son Bobby, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Bob was a quiet and humble man who enjoyed raising his boys, attending family gatherings, family camping trips, and traveling up and down the west coast. But, most of all, Bob enjoyed being devoted to, and sharing his life with his one true love, Beverly.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
