Herbert Kealoha Jr.
January 30, 1965 — February 22, 2020
Herbert Kealoha, Jr., 55, passed away on Saturday evening, February 22, 2020, from heart complications. Herb was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson, and friend to all who knew him.
Born on January 30, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawai’i to Herbert Kealoha, Sr. and Shirley-Ann Kuuleimokihana Hing Kealoha. Herb grew up in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii until the age of 7 when his family moved to Wai’anae, Oahu, Hawaii, where he spent the remainder of his youth and young adult years until marrying and moving to San Diego, California.
Growing up in Hawaii, Herb spent countless hours at the beach, running around the neighborhood getting into mischief with his buddies, playing video games for hours at the local arcade, pestering his sister, and pushing his limits with mom. He loved watching, playing and coaching the game of football, and was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
The youngest of two children, Herb was full of energy and was a natural-born leader. He graduated from Waipahu High School, in Oahu, Hawaii in 1983. Herb was analytical yet artistic. These skills would lead him to develop many talents including his career choice in AutoCAD, a skill he began developing in high school, which he flourished throughout his life. His skills and entrepreneurial spirit led to him building a side business designing logos, t-shirts, hats, and banners for his kid’s sports teams and other teams and people. He also had a knack for floral arranging, leather-working, and even woodworking. A couple of not so well known facts about Herb - he could sew, was adamant that clothes should always be pressed, so yes, he ironed his clothes and his family’s clothes. A trait he got from mom. His music playlist genres included Hawaiian, his all-time favorite genre, along with Classic Rock, R&B, Reggae, and even Country music, who would have known.
One of Herb’s passions is cooking. He loved to cook for family and friends, especially island-style food. He looked forward to preparing Christmas dinner and especially the Kealoha family midnight tradition of homemade Cheeseburgers and Rootbeer Floats. A tradition passed down from his mom and dad.
Herb believed that knowledge was power, and always sought after knowledge and learning new skills, a trait he continuously encouraged his children to do. Herb will be remembered for many things, including his generosity, sense of humor, cooking talents, and his artistic abilities. Mostly, Herb will be remembered for his deep abiding love for his family. His family was and will continue to be his top priority.
Herb leaves behind a legacy of love and Aloha to friends and family, generosity and selfless service to others, honesty in his dealings both personal and professional and dedicated friendship through word and deed. His top priority was and is always to his loving wife and children. He will be greatly missed.
Herbert Kealoha, Jr. is survived by his wife, Susan Kayo Nakamiyo Kealoha, his two children Kreighton Tetsuo Ka’uhane’makamaeo’kalani Kealoha, 16, Keighdyn Misao Ku’uleimokihana Kealoha, 12, sister Tanya Mililani Kealoha Reas, niece Lindsay Kahealani Reas, nephew Matthew Kawaiokalani Reas, and the children of nephew Brandon Ikaikaokalani Reas (deceased) Dahlia-Joy Hokulani Reas and Ikaika Zion Reas, as well as many other nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunties, and grandmother, all of whom love him dearly.
Due to the overwhelming response from people, we have decided to have two separate memorial services (San Diego and Hawaii).
