Ima Jean Huntamer was born in Wyonna Iowa in 1929. She was the youngest of two daughters, born to Emmitt and Alta Holcomb. While still an infant, Ima Jean's family started a westward move as her father searched for work during the great depression. At a very early age tragedy descended upon Ima Jean's life when her father Emmitt was killed in a work related accident. Not long after the accident, Mr. Mathis Metz entered into the young family and married Alta. Soon Ima Jean had two new brothers.
Continuing to move west, the Metz family finally settled in the foothills just east of El Cajon. In 1947, Ima Jean wed her high school sweetheart, Robert Bryant Huntamer. The Huntamers continued to reside in the Crest area for many years, and Jean was very active in the community. Whether it was school activities, social events, church services or volunteer work, Jean taught her children the importance of being involved in the community.
While raising 3 children Bob and Jean built a very successful insurance business.
Later in life, after the kids were grown, Bob and Jean set out on the ultimate adventure, and lived their dream of traveling the vastness of North America in their motorhome. They had a good life, loved each other unconditionally, and cherished their time together. Jean lost Bob to a heart attack after 58 years of marriage.
In her final years, Ima Jean met Mr. Dusty Ward. Ima and Dusty became inseparable companions, and spent their time together until Ima won her battle against insurmountable health issues.
Ima is survived by her sister, Joanne Harriot, her brother, Mathias Metz Jr, and her children, Stephen Huntamer and wife Debi Huntamer, Marilyn Wilkinson and husband Dennis Wilkinson, and David Huntamer. She is also survived by seven grand children, and sixteen great-grand children.
