Irene Warren Taylor
1918-2014
In Memory & Missed Beyond Measure
Passed away peacefully in her home. Born in McAllister, Oklahoma, the daughter of Knox Warren and Rosalee Roland Warren. Irene revealed her strong will and independent spirit, when she joined the Methodist Church as a child to the surprise of her Baptist mother. She studied nutrition at Oklahoma State College and was the first family member to attend. The Great Depression necessitated a move to San Diego, California with her family where she met and married fellow Oklahoman, James W. Taylor. Irene is survived by her son James Farley Taylor and numerous “adopted children”, neighbors, nephews, niece, cousins, and friends.
Irene spent most of her adult life in San Diego and worked at Sears for 26 years before retiring. She is famous for her baking, especially her buttermilk brownies she generously shared with friends, family, and numerous philanthropic organizations. Irene was a member of: The Eastern Star, Jewel Shrine #99, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, VA Hospital and Veterans home in Chula Vista where she could be found talking and cheering up the residents. Her main focus was volunteering with the AMVETs Veteran’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Home. Irene was The AMVET “Woman of the Year”, State of California.
Irene will be remembered for her self-assurance, her kindness, and her unfailing energy. She will be missed by all of us who were blessed to have met her and become one of the “kids” and be part of her family.
