Irmgard E. Steuermann

Irmgard Elfriede Steuermann passed away of natural causes in La Mesa on March 9, 2014, she was 89.
She was born to Helen and Martin Matzig in Gebhardsdorf, Germany on March 21, 1924. As a young girl she greatly enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing in the beautiful countryside. She fled Gebhardsdorf during the war and found herself in Bordesholm in northern Germany where she met Otto Steuermann; they married in 1947. A son, Klaus Heinrich was born in 1949.
In 1954 Irmgard and son followed her husband to La Mesa, CA. They resided in a small guest house of their sponsors initially. They had a house in the Helix High area of La Mesa by the time her second son, Peter was born in 1956. She enjoyed attending Christ the King Lutheran Church with her sons; she both attended and hosted Bible study classes.
She divorced in 1964 and spent many years working at the Sausage King in La Mesa; she was very proud of how clean she kept equipment and display cases. She was an exemplary cook and baker; everyone begged her for her German Chocolate cake.
She enjoyed hearing about and playing with her grandchildren, Annaliese, Christianne, Jessica, Jacob and Nicholas. Great grandchildren followed: Kirin, Justin and Jordan.
She spent her last few years at Parkway Hills in La Mesa participating in Sunday church activities and enjoyed singing with the visiting singing group.
