Jacqueline “Jackie” Frances (Ward) Martin died on March 30, 2022 at home in San Diego, California just five days shy of her 96th birthday.
Jackie was born in Detroit, Michigan on Easter Sunday April 4, 1926, the youngest of two children born to John “Jack” Edward Ward and Ethel Emily (Yuill) Ward of Detroit, Michigan.
Jackie graduated from Michigan State Normal College (now known as Eastern Michigan University) in Ypsilanti, Michigan in May of 1949 with a BA degree in Art. One year later Jackie married her college sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Martin, on July 8, 1950 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They moved to San Diego right after they were married to be near Bob’s sister, Roxanna. Jackie was a homemaker until her death.
Jackie and Bob were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of San Diego since 1950. They made many friends from their newlyweds Sunday School class who regularly met for picnics as well as annual group camping trips to Paso Picacho near Julian every Labor Day weekend until 1994. Jackie loved singing hymns and watching musicals.
Jackie is survived by her two devoted sons: Robb Martin of San Diego and John (Tammye) Martin of San Diego; grandson John-Patrick (Alexandria) Martin of Marana, Arizona; granddaughter Christina Martin of San Diego; and great-grandson Giovanni Martin of Marana, Arizona. Jackie is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Martin; sister, Donna (Ward) Melcher, and her parents.
Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 1:30pm (please arrive by 1:20pm at the horseshoe driveway area near the office).
