Janet Marlene Bishop, aged 93, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, in San Diego, CA, surrounded by loving family and friends. Born on August 2, 1931, in Flaxville, MT, Janet lived a life marked by strength, care, and passion. Growing up in a large family that followed her father's construction career throughout the southwestern US, she settled in San Diego in 1946, becoming a vibrant and cherished member of the community.
Janet graduated from Point Loma High School in 1949 and retained friendships with many classmates. Her professional life included dedicated years as an office assistant at Luther Burbank Elementary School and San Diego High School from 1972 until her retirement in 1997. She also shared her love for Tai Chi as an instructor at the Taoist Sanctuary of San Diego for many years.
Her commitment extended to various community activities; she was actively involved in the Point Loma High School Alumni Association, served as PTA President at Florence Elementary School, and participated in the Presidio Little League Auxiliary. Janet's hobbies included Tai Chi, calligraphy, notably creating custom Christmas cards annually, and regularly hosting social gatherings at her home in Mission Hills. She served faithfully as part of the First Lutheran Church Women's Auxiliary and in her supporting role as an SDG&E executive's wife.
Janet was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church in San Diego, where she formed many lifelong friendships and connections; late in life she enjoyed the community and support of Pacific Beach Christian Church.
She leaves behind a loving family: sons Robert G. Bishop and Jeffrey S. Bishop; sister Beverly Schwabe; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, George "Art" Bishop; her siblings Lois Durbin, Deanice Mayes, Howard Robinson, and Coyla Robinson; and her parents Howard and Bernice (Tande) Robinson.
A memorial service will be held at Pacific Beach Christian Church on October 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice in memory of Janet. Her legacy of kindness, loyalty, and community involvement will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
