Janice Elaine Johnson, age 84, passed away in San Diego on July 14, 2021 of heart related issues.
Janice was born on July 27, 1936 in New Ulm, Minnesota to James and Mathilda Honzay. She grew up in Olivia, Minnesota and attended Olivia schools. After graduating from High School in 1954, Janice attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1958 with invitations for membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Gamma Mu. She began her career in Social Work at Catholic Charities in St. Paul. In 1963, Janice was awarded a full scholarship at Western University in Cleveland, Ohio to pursue a masters degree in Social Work. She lived in Cleveland until 1974 when she moved with her family to San Diego. She continued her career in Social Work with San Diego County until her retirement in 1998.
Janice was a devoted mother to her 2 children, Frank and Kristen. She was the embodiment of kindness, gentleness and goodness. Throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those who surrounded her. Janice will be forever loved and forever remembered.
Janice was predeceased by her parents; James and Mathilda Honzay and her nephew, Thomas W. Young. She is survived by her children, Frank and Kristen; and her sister Kay Young and spouse, Thomas; and brother James Honzay and spouse, Julie.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4124 Mount Abraham Ave., San Diego on September 8th at 11:00 am.
