Janice Stevenson

Janice Krueger was born in Lake Crystal Minnesota, Christmas day 1934. She was the 2nd of 6 children; Bertha, Janice, Kermit, Mavis, Richard and Paul, a very close knit family still today. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Stevenson of 60 years and their daughter, Peggy Downs. She is survived by son Michael (Kim) and Jerry (surviving husband of Peggy) Downs. Grandchildren Nathan Kacher, Shannon (David) Maue, Britnie (Shaun) Naffziger, Daniel (Stefani) Stevenson. Great grandchildren David Jr, Alivia, Jeremiah, Easton, Caleb, Drew, Macy, Jax and Madison. 

Janice, Gene and their two children moved to San Diego in 1960. She was an active volunteer in their local elementary school and soon became a school employee working as a district aid. Janice later joined her husband in his business, North Park Rug & Carpet where they worked together along with their son Michael, building a successful business for almost 40 years. She was a great cook, a good friend and loved her time traveling both on road trips in the US, as well as her trips abroad to Jerusalem and Germany. Janice was a loyal member of her church and church choir. She had a love of music both with listening and singing. Jan enjoyed performing in her church bell choir and also with friends in small group settings. She was comfortable in the front row with her bells or singing alto in the choir. The only thing that came before her love of music were her grand and great grandchildren. She would often sit and rub their backs while she talked of life’s great adventures, all the while pouring her love and kindness into them. She had a huge impact on both her children and grandchildren, for that, and so many other reasons, she will be greatly missed.

Janice passed away on July 10, 2024 with family at her side. 

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of San Diego, 2111 Camino del Rio S, San Diego, CA 92108 on August 7, 2024 at 11:00 am.
