Jimmy was born in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was the son of LCDR USN William G. Kay and
Virginia L. Kay, The family, including older brother Steven, lived in many towns growing up as
a Navy family. They ended up in San Diego where Jim spent most of his life and called it
home. He attended Bonita Vista Jr. High and High School where he was part of the Water
Polo and Track and Field Pole Vaulting teams. Jim joined the Marine Corp and was proud to
be part of the Silent Drill Team. After three years in the Marines, he worked as a deck hand on
a private yacht. He traveled from Alaska to many ports in Mexico and lived an adventurous
life, He had a lot of great stories about his time in The Corp and his time aboard ship.
When he met his future wife he was working as a EMT and a reserve fire fighter for Crest Fire
Department, near San Diego. Jim was extremely proud of that time. He also worked at RCP
Block and Brick in a supervisory capacity until he retired in 2020. He was married to Kimberly
King in 1994, for 25 years. Although parted, Kimm and Jim remained close friends in a caring
relationship. Jim is survived by his children Trevor 25, Jake 24 and Abby 21. He is preceded
in death by his parents and brother.
Jim was an honorable man, consistent and hard working. He never failed to go above and
beyond at his job to put bread on the table for his family. Jim was kind and generous, a noble
soul. He always had a smile and he was always ready to help.
Jim was a Master Chef for all his family & friends. He had fun giving out all his wonderful
recipes. He loved and cherished his family and friends, and in turn was loved by many. Jim
will be sorely missed. RIP our beloved dad and friend.
