Jo-Ann G Koth (Berst)

Jo-Ann Koth, 80, of San Diego, California died Saturday, January 25, 2014 in San Diego, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, NE. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Interment will be in South Logan Cemetery north of St. Paul.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul, NE.

Memorials are suggested to the South Logan Cemetery.

Mrs. Koth was raised in Cushing, NE. She attended beauty school in Grand Island, NE.

She was united in marriage to Howard Koth in 1958, and moved to California where she began her long career as a cosmetologist and owner of her beauty salon for many years.

She continued her work in subsequent moves to Texas, Maryland, Virginia and back again to California. Following her husband’s passing she resided for three years in Nebraska, and then returned to San Diego, California in 2010 to live near her daughter.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Thomas McCrystal of La Mesa, CA; a son and daughter-in-law, Brettley and Mona Koth of Lexington, VA; a grandson Henry Koth; a brother, Delbert Berst of Grand Island; sisters-in-law, Donna Berst of St. Paul and Charlotte Berst of Grand Island; brother-in-law, Vernal V. Koth of Covina, CA; cousins Dale Berst and Jerry Helzer of St. Paul, Jim Helzer of Hastings, Norman Petersen and Don Jelinek of Grand Island, Carolyn Wegner of Kearney and Frances Klein of Elk Horn, IA; nieces, Laura Koth of San Francisco, CA, Pamela Curry of Palmer, Janice Sterling of Grand Island, Betty Wilson of Newport and Debra Henderson of Leavenworth, KS; a great niece, Ella Woodruff of San Francisco and great nephews David Koth of North Hollywood, CA and Robert Berst of Grand Island.

She is preceded in death by Howard, her husband of 48 years; father and mother, Charles and Marie Berst; a sister Beverly Berst; two brothers, Edward and Harold Berst; a brother-in-law, Ivan Koth and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Evelyn Koth.
