Obituary for John P. Gould

John P. Gould, 84, died the morning of December 5, 2017, surrounded by family at Scripps Green Hospital from complications of lung disease and pneumonia. He was born January 1, 1933 in Greybull, Wyoming to Anne Amundsen Gould and Alva Clarence Gould. He was the youngest brother of William (Bill), Carol and Doris.
John started his schooling in Miles City from the first to fourth grades. The Gould family lived in Miles City for about five years and then they moved to Lewistown when John was ten. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Lewistown Jr. High (where he started playing the tuba) and Fergus High School. John was a junior when he met Lois Marie Benjamin who was a sophomore in 1950. They became high school sweethearts and were married on July 26, 1952. They settled in Lewistown where daughters Kayanne Marie, Janet Lorraine and son John Richard “Butch” were born. In 1956, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where another son, Jeffrey Charles was born.
John’s employment in the building materials field began in 1951 when he started working for United States Gypsum (USG) in Heath, Montana as Quality Control in the Materials Lab. In 1956, he was transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah as an Office Manager. In 1963, USG moved the family to California where John was a salesman until he became the Manager of Heartland Building Materials in El Cajon.
John retired from USG after 37 years on September 1, 1988. After retirement he enjoyed golf, where he had five “hole in ones”, traveling, tending to his roses and tomatoes in his garden, and spending time with his family and friends. His dog “Mollie” held a special place in his heart and was always sitting on his lap.
John is survived by his wife Lois of 65 years; daughter Kayanne Edmonds, daughter and son-in-law Janet and Roy Herbold, son Jeffrey, three granddaughters Terri Kurczewski, Mila and Samantha Gould, grandson Kyle Herbold and great granddaughter Vera Kurczewski; his sister Carol Meredith and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Butch, his brother Bill and sister Doris.
John dearly loved his family and he was a humorous, gentle, kind and thoughtful man who gave us all so much, but most of all his unconditional love; his laughter; and his support.
