John (Jack) Michael Tex
April 7, 1929 – February 16, 2017
Jack passed away in the early morning of February 16, 2017 in his home in the tender loving care of his wife Barbara. Jack was born to the late Anne Herney and Joseph Tex on April 7, 1929 in Osceola, Nebraska and moved to San Diego, California where he resided throughout his life. He attended Hoover High School, Cal State at Berkley, and received a Master’s Degree from SDSU with top honors. He studied Civil Engineering and retired from the City of El Cajon, California as the Principle Engineer after over 20 years of dedicated excellence. Jack took up running at the age of 40 and continued to run into his mid-60. He had an exciting life of world travel with his wife Barbara, of 23 years. He was predeceased by his 1st wife Loretta, mother of their two daughters and his brother Joseph Tex. Jack and Barbara had an exciting non-stop fun filled life of travel and adventure throughout their marriage.
Jack is survived by his wife Barbara, children, Julie Tex, Scott Tex (grandson raised by Jack) and Marie Tex, 5 step children, Jim Moore (Kathleen Hartshorne), Kathie (Steve) Shanahan, Pat (Gloria) Moore, Cindy (Bret) Wilkins, Sharie Herwehe, 19 grandchildren Scott Tex, Kelly Groff, April Tex; Ryan (Crystal), Tara, Kristi Shanahan; Sean Moore; Jamie, Brian, Jason, Eric, Timmy, Alissa and David Wilkins; Kelli Herwehe Schry (Mike), Brandon Herwehe, Amy Herwehe Barnett (Ryan); Sarah Kalin Fields (Mike) and John Kalin and 16 great grandchildren.
If you knew Jack you knew he felt the universe was filled with wonder and knowledge; he loved to laugh, do the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune crossword in pen, an avid reader, a movie buff, he loved fishing, traveling the world, watching sports, playing bridge and Jack loved his family and friends deeply. His story telling of his adventures and the anecdotes he shared brightened everyone’s life. His laugh was infectious and his knowledge of historical world events and current happenings was endless. Anyone who knew Jack knew the joy he brought to all people he touched. We will miss him dearly.
