Jose Luis Lara, a cherished member of his community, was born on April 9th 1955, in El Paso, Texas. He passed away peacefully On January 20th 2025 in San Diego California after finally succumbing to his long-term illness of Parkinson’s and Dementia.
Jose lived his young adult life in El Paso, Texas before joining the US Navy at 18 years old serving our country for 20 years ending his Navy career as a Chief Petty Officer. He also worked as a US immigration officer at a port of entry for 8 years. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dolores and her children Salvador and Celina.
Jose’s legacy will continue through his children: his son’s Jose Jr. and David.
Jose was also a part of a large family which includes his siblings: Mauro Lara, Patricia Sandoval, Albert Lara, Michael Lara, Victor Lara, George Lara, and Gilbert Lara. He was preceded in death by his mother Esther Gonzalez Lara, father Mauro Edmundo Lara, and his brother Samuel Lara.
Jose always enjoyed playing sports, with golf being his favorite. Every chance he could, he would spend his time on the golf course with friends and family. His favorite football team was the Green Bay Packers.
Beyond his love for golf Jose was a skilled handy man and always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and family. Whether it was working in his friends auto mechanic shop or working closely with his brother, Albert in his plumbing business.
Jose’s life was enriched by all the friendship's and connections he made throughout the years. He will be remembered with great fondness by all his family members and friends each of which experienced firsthand the love, warmth, and kindness Jose had to give.
The family expresses great gratitude to the team of doctors and caregivers throughout Jose’s 10-year journey with his illness. A viewing and ceremony will take place on Monday January 27th 4-8pm at Featheringill mortuary in La Mesa California followed by an intimate Military honors ceremony on January 30th at 11:00am where Jose will be laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery.
