EL CAJON -- Joseph Giammarinaro was born on January 27, 1948, in San Diego, California. He grew up in Little Italy and Mission Hills, attending San Diego High School where he excelled in baseball, football, and wrestling. He graduated in 1967. During his time in high school, he met the love of his life, Mary Dixon. They were married in June 1971 and started a family. After high school, Joseph served in the United States Army, completing his basic training at Fort Ord and being deployed in Germany.
Joseph worked for San Diego Gas & Electric for over 35 years and received two IBEW Life Saving Awards in 1982 and 1990. He dedicated over 10 years to volunteering at North Park Little League, coaching his sons Joseph and Dominic. In his free time, he enjoyed watching western movies, traveling, and gambling at casinos. However, his greatest love was his family. He was known as Papa to his grandchildren and was always present at their games and school events.
Joseph passed away at home on January 11. He is survived by his sons Joseph and Dominic, his daughters-in-law Heather and Adriana, and his beloved grandchildren Benjamin, Maya, Morgan, and Kennedi. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the charity of your choice.
