Judith Anne Walker

April 18, 1956 — February 10, 2019

Our beloved Judy became a spirit in the sky on February 10, 2019.

She was born on April 18, 1956 to Alfred Northrup Walker and Patrician Anne Dunn in Hinsdale, Illinois. Shortly after graduating from high school, Judy enlisted in the United States Navy. Following her basic training at Naval Training Center Orlando, FL, she was stationed at Naval Air Station Miramar for her entire 4-year enlistment.
In 1987, Judy began her career with FedEx where she worked for nearly 32 years and turned many of her fellow employees into her personal friends as well.

Embracing her forever home of San Diego, where she would play rugby and enjoy sharing her gift of laughter, Judy met her lifelong and endearing friends, Marianne “frannie” Wholey and Robin “curlew” Sherg - two of the most special and influential people in her life whom she absolutely adored.

Judy’s smile was a magnet to everyone she met, the sunshine in any room she entered and the epitome of a true giver. Concerned about the well being of anyone she crossed paths with, especially the homeless - she was known to invite them into her home, offer a shower, wash their clothes and make sure they got some food and rest. Yes, our sweet Judy blue eyes did stuff like that. She was that person who didn’t mind being further back in line because she always put others first.

Judy dedicated 27 years of her life to AIDS and HIV research by participating in the HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program (HNRP) at UCSD San Diego. The mission of HNRP is to increase understanding & knowledge of HIV-related diseases as they affect the human nervous system.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her lifelong friend Marianne, her brothers Steven Walker and Chris Walker of Chicago, IL , nephews Jack and James Walker, her beloved dog Cali & cool cat Coco, and numerous friends she made from everywhere she went.

There were no strangers with Judy ……only friends she hadn’t met. With a smile for everyone and an infectious laugh, Judy was blessed with a natural gift to make any situation seem lighter.

Judy enjoyed fishing, hiking, reading, camping, animals, watching her beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, reading books, jury duty, her favorite magazines and the Sunday paper, working with stained glass, gardening and her flowers.

A “Just Judy” celebration of life will be held on March 9, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Center, 3909 Centre Street, San Diego, CA. 92103.
