Karl David Schlaich of Huntington Beach, CA passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, following a short illness due to complications from Crohn's disease. He is survived by his sons, Spencer and Maxwell, his half-brother and sister, Bruce (Linda) and Donna Schlaich and his partner of many years, Tina Stewart.
Karl was born and raised in Cypress, CA, spending the last several years in Capistrano Beach, CA, where he raised his family. He earned his BA in economics and environmental science at UCSB and received his MBA in finance at San Diego State University, working in Business Development as a Sales and Marketing professional throughout his career.
A lifelong surfer, skier and soccer player, Karl loved adventure, spending time after college working on fishing boats in Alaska, running with the bulls in Pamplona, helicopter skiing and traveling around the world.
However, once he had his family, Karl loved spending time with his sons more than anything, coaching their many sports, teaching them to surf, chauffeuring them to their many activities and making the best breakfasts around.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21st with a paddle in memoriam of Karl at noon at Capistrano Beach, followed by a celebration of his life at Olamendi’s at 34660 Pacific Coast Hwy, Dana Point, CA. Details will be posted on his facebook page.
